Monday's field trip

We have a field trip on Monday to HSU
to see Circus Oz at 11:00.

We were not able to get the bus for this,
so we need parents to drive.

Please sign up if you are available,
and be sure to give the office a copy of
your current car insurance.

Thank you!

Monday December 3

It is December, and the storms are upon us.
We held up pretty good in the wind,
but one of our trees in the back is broken.

Is anyone with a chainsaw willing to cut it all the way off
to make the back safe again?
Let Marianne or Jen know if you can help out.

Tonight is our Steering Committee meeting for the month.
There is one scheduled for December 17,
but I don;t think we will need a second meeting that soon,
so if you have anything to bring to the board,
please come tonight at 5:30.

Looking ahead, our annual Elves Workshop is coming up
on December 20.
This is an afternoon of crafts set up for the sudents to
make gifts for their families.

We need parents who have craft ideas and/or supplies
to run a craft table.
We have some ideas that have been popular in the past
and we just need people to volunteer.
Jen has the idea list and will be looking for people to
sign up.

Let us know how you can help out.

We'll keep you posted!

Wednesday Nov. 28th

I hope everyone had an enjoyable week off over Thanksgiving.
We are back in session, and thankful for the sunshine making outside recess possible.
This time of year can get crazy when the kids are stuck inside too long.

On that subject, I want to bring up the inevitable mud and rain
that we deal with each winter.

We believe in the importance of fresh air and exercise for the kids,
and even on the rainiest days we try to get outside in between downpours.

Any type of water proof footwear for the kids helps
their feet to stay dry and their bodies stay warm.
Rain boots are the best because they slip on and off easily
and dry quickly.

It makes winter recess more fun when you can splash and
run in the mucky field
and not come back with wet socks!

Also, if you ever have extra pairs of rain boots that you would like to donate,
we would be glad to keep some here for kids who need them.

Thank you to everyone who helped out in Trinindad last Saturday.
We made almost $600, and everyone who came to pick up their raffle
prizes said it was a lovely event.

We especially want to thank Penny, who organized the event, and
Michelle, Cierra, Heather, Green, Mary, and Jennifer
who put a lot of work into organizing and collecting raffle items,
and working at the event itself.

The month of December always goes fast,
and we have a lot planned.
I will update this as needed, but also read the board out in front
of the school to stay informed about weekly events.

Coming up next week is our Steering Committee meeting.
Racheal Iverson, Lilian and Faith's mom, was approved
by you to fill the empty seat on this committee.

Our next meeting will focus on:
budget updates,
Single Plan for Student Acheivement updates,
and current happenings.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

November 7

Well, November is moving along so quickly
I cannot believe it.

Even with the time change, it still doesn't feel like
Thanksgiving should be just around the corner.

Thanks to everyone who came and made our Halloween Carnival so great.
If you took pictures,
please give us some copies for the yearbook!

The month of November is election month,
and this year we only have one opening on our Steering Committee.
I am putting up a sign-up today for anyone
interested in running to fill this vacancy.

Voter ballots will be in your parent boxes next week,
and we will have the ballot box in the library until November 16th,
the last day before Thanksgiving break.

As always, we will have a family potluck on that day
from 1:00-3:00, so please join us if you can.

Also, if you have not already signed up for a parent conference,
the spaces are filling up fast.
Don't miss this opportunity to meet with the teachers
and get the latest updates on your children's progress.

One last announcement, and this is the first
of many times I will remind everyone about this-
The observance of Martin Luther King Day has been changed
from January 21 as it says on the school calendar
to January 14.

This was a county wide change and effects all schools,
as well as all parents- because we will be closed that day.

I'll remind you again before winter break,
but just in case you were making plans around
the long weekend, I wanted to let you know in advance.

Tuesday 10/30

So, I was wrong about the fundraiser in Trinidad.
It is not a show with a reggae band- that was a rumor!

It is the Trinidad Holiday Artisans Festival-
the Taste & Talents of Humboldt.

This is an all day craft fair with wine tasting, free food
(if you purchase the wine tasting)
and Trillium's fabulous raffle.

The band, if there is one- which remains to be seen,
will only play after the fair for the vendors, organizers, and volunteers.

If there is a band, it will be Israel Vibration, but again,
this may only be a rumor so please don't count on it.

So far, we have people soliciting donations in McKinleyville,
the Arcata Plaza, and Henderson Center.

If you know someone with a local product or business,
please hit them up for a donation.
If you need our official donation letter with our tax ID#,
ask Jen for a copy.

Thank you again.

The forcast this morning said
"an abundance of sunshine" for tomorrow,
so I hope to see you at the Halloween Carnival.

Monday 10/29

I just wanted to remind everyone to sign up to help at the
Halloween Carnival this Wednesday!

Also, Thursday is pajama day and a minimum day.
School is out at 1:10.

In case you have not heard about our upcoming holiday fundraiser,
we will be having a raffle in Trinidad on November 24th.

This is a wine tasting event, and a reggae band will play.
Last year we made almost $600 at this event,
and the money we make helps
to supplement our fieldtrip budget, making things
like CenterArts and swim lessons possible.

Jen has been organizing people to solicite raffle donations from the community.
We have a letter to give to businesses, and if you are interested
in helping, please check in so that we don't ask the same people twice.

We will also need people to work the table at the event,
and since this is a family event with a great band
I hope this will be easy to accomplish.

Let us know if you are interested.

The weeks are flying by, and it is almost time for parent conferences.
They will be November 8-15.
We will have minimum days to allow for afternoon conferences.

Please sign up for a time slot to meet with your child's teacher.
Aly's list is on her door,
and Wendy's is by the parent boxes.

Parent conferences are so important, as they keep an
open connection between you and the teachers.
The teachers love the chance to praise your childrens strengths,
and of course you'll love to hear it!

Also, if there are any concerns,
it helps to work together early in the school year
to help your child have the best chance at success.

See you at the carnival!
If you want to help set up,
come by in the morning around 11:00.
Thank you!

Wednesday October 24

Only one week until the Halloween Carnival!!!!

We are getting really excited about our upcoming carnival
next Wednesday from 1:00-3:00.

Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school
in the morning, but will need to keep masks
and cumbersome accessories
off in the morning.

Also, we ask that you please not to send weapons with the kids' costumes.
I know that pirates, for instance, often have a sword,
and they are allowed to have those during the carnival
as long as they don't use them against each other.

However, we discourage guns, knves and the like at school,
and we ask that your kids keep them at home.

Jen put a letter in everybody's parent boxes today
with a list of what we need to make the carnival another excellent event.

As usual, Aly's class will turn the playhouse into a haunted house,
so feel free to send in decorations.
We will also have fun games for the kids to play.

Please be aware that we make a candy exception at school
on Halloween- we have surrendered, and yes, we do give out candy.

If your kids have special dietary needs or you would like to
discourage excessive sugar intake- feel free to bring healthy snacks.
We would appreciate it.

Remember that November 1st is a minimum day,
so school will be over at 1:10.

There will be aftercare as usual,
but everyone usually seems tired
on the day after all the excitement.

I also want to mention that we have had quite a lot of
parent volunteerism so far this year,
and we appreciate you all so much.

Thank you!

Monday 10/15

Welcome to our new forum for posting all Trillium events.

We will update information at least once a week.

Fundraising update: The Festival of Courage raised $93.00 for each classroom. This money
is used for special projects and activities. Thank you to all who helped.

Volunteer opportunities: As you may have noticed, our playground is transforming. We have removed two swing sets and put up one climber. We have another
climber and a new swing set to assemble. We need parent help for this.
Look for sign-up sheets for our next work day. Child care can be
available, so be sure to tell us if you need it. Thanks.

This week's events:
Monday Oct. 15: Our fieldtrip to Redwood Roots Farm was canceled due to the weather.
We will try to reschedule it for a sunny day.
* Steering Committee meeting tonight at 5:30.

Tuesday Oct. 16: Our 3-5 classroom will have an in-class presentation from the Humboldt
Bay Keepers at 11:00

Thursday Oct. 18: Author Festival
This year we will welcome Barbara Kerley.
Barbara is a local author, and the students have been reading some of her books in class. Barbara will read to each class, and we will have a
vegetarian potluck at 12:00. You are all invited to attend.

Looking Ahead:
Tuesday Oct. 23: K-2 class meeting at 4:30
Please come to hear all about the wonderful activities your children are
involved with, and all that is coming in the next few months. This will also
be an opportunity to meet other parents, ask Wendy questions, and get
involved with Trillium.
