So long for now

This is potentially the last update that will be posted on this site.

We have had ongoing problems and limited participation using this format and are switching to something more user friendly and interactive through Parent Square.

You have been invited to join Parent Square and we would appreciate it if you would create your account and get started. That way we can be assured that updates are getting out.

Parent Square has already proven to be better in many ways- updates go out in real time (this blog update won't get to you until tomorrow), there is a calendar embedded in the site that makes it simple to see what's coming up, and people have been commenting!

If you have questions please check with Marianne or Susie.

Halloween carnival updates and November's busy calendar are already up on the site so please check it out. Thanks.

10/3: K-5 to Center Arts Show Zoppe Family Circus at 11:00- parent drivers needed!
This show will be in the Creamery District- not at HSU.

10/4 & 10/5: Medieval Festival of Courage- please sign for a shift at the Trillium Bounce House
This is our first fundraiser of the year.

10/15: K-5 to the Pumpkin Patch at 1:15- parent drivers needed!

10/31: Halloween Carnival 1:00-3:00

We are looking into using a new communication system called Parent Square. This is a secure website that is similar to other social media sites but it is only for our school.

You will be able to get updates by text or email (or both), join groups that you are involved in- such as fundraising, steering committee, your child's classroom, etc. You will also be able to view a current calendar of events and other school related information, post photos, make comments and other interactive . If you get an email invitation- please check it out.

We are hoping that this will make it easy for everyone to stay connected to the school community in the easiest possible format.

Let us know what you think! Thanks.

Hi everyone.
I am posting this because we really need some help at the school ASAP.

Aly's classroom is ready to be painted- which means it is taken apart-  and we need a few more people to help get this done so she can get ready for school to start.

Even just a few hours on Monday or Tuesday will make a big difference.
Please email us if you can help at trilliumcs@gmail so we can coordinate a time.
Thank you in advance!

August 2014

Hi Trillium families.

We wanted to let everyone know that Wesley is putting together a crew to do painting in the school next week. He is painting the bathrooms, Aly's classroom and hopefully the kitchen too. The more help we can round up the more painting can be done before school starts.
If you can help out even one day, we certainly appreciate it.

The first day of school is Monday August 25th at 9:00 am.
There will be aftercare until 5:30.

We will have our annual potluck lunch at 12:45 on the first day of school- please join us for a meet & greet for new & returning staff & families. Aftercare paperwork with new rates, free & reduced lunch applications, emergency contact updates, and parent handbooks will all be given out on the first day.

If you have an outstanding Aftercare bill over $100 please make a payment on the first day in order to continue using the program.

Trillium's fall enrollment is currently full for all grades, but we have a few families who are still hoping for a spot. If you are not sending your child this fall please let us know ASAP so we can offer the opening to another student before the first day of school. Thank you.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Dear Trillium Parents,

Katie is moving classrooms!  We are very excited for this change as it will give more room for the second and third graders to learn and grow.

Please join us for a moving day this Friday, August 1st, from 10-12.  We will be posting on Facebook too if you want to RSVP.

As you can imagine, the rooms are looking pretty torn up.  You are welcome to bring children, but we will not be providing childcare.

See you soon,
Katie

April 2014

Here is the busy April update:

Starting the week of April 7th, 3-5 graders will take turns participating in the test-run
of the new Smarter Balance test that will replace STAR testing in future years.

A letter went home about this with a link to the practice test.
Please let your children visit this site at home so they will be familiar with the format.
Although the scores will not count, we will participate in this test run to help
work out any glitches with the new format.

This school year has been especially busy for a number of reasons, not the least of which is all the changes we have had to integrate in one school year- Common Core & it's spending plan,  Smarter Balance Field Testing, the new Local Control Funding Formula and it's spending plan, and Prop. 39 funds. If none of this sounds familiar you can visit the CDE website for details.

The point is- there is a lot more to do with the same number of staff members and we need your help to get through the school year.

Here are some areas that parent volunteers are needed:

1) organizing Trillium shirt sales
2) working on the yearbook
3) washing the kitchen towels each week
4) garden & greenhouse care
5) planning for graduation &  End of the Year camp out
6) Help with the playhouse- either a remodel or a demolition
7) donations of extra clothes- especially pants

Please let us know if you can help. Thanks in advance.

Also- thanks to everyone who attended a parent conference and filled out a parent survey.
Your feedback is essential to our ongoing success.

Coming right up:

Monday April 7-May 16: Smarter Balance Field Testing
Tuesday April 8th: Steering Committee 6:00
M-F April 14-18: Lisa will sub. for Sarah
Friday April 18: minimum day
M-F April 21-25: Spring Break
Monday April 28: Teacher Duty Day
Wednesday April 30: 1st day of swimming

We are pleased to announce that we have swim lessons planned again this year and we are taking the bus to and from the pool- yay! We still need at least one male chaperone to help out in the boys locker room. The dates for swimming are: 4/30, 5/2, 5/5, 5/7, 5/9, 5/12, & 5/14.

All students will be swimming unless there a doctor provides a medical exclusion.
Please send your kids with: a suit, towel, goggles, hair ties for long hair & a bag for wet stuff.
Wearing your suit to school under your clothes is always smart option but not required.

The End of the Year Family Camp-out is coming right up.
Please put it on your calendar for June 10-12 at Pamplin Grove.
Look for itinerary details in your parent boxes mid-May.
Families are always welcome to attend any part of the trip that fits in their schedule
if you cannot get all 3 days off.
If your family cannot attend the trip at all please talk to your child's teacher about independent study for those days. There will not be anyone at the school.

One last reminder: when the weather is wet and muddy please send you kids with some extra dry clothes, pants and socks would be the most helpful. Thanks.
